Our multi-disciplinary team love the unusual and thrive on working in partnership with our clients, other specialists and leading academics to provide scientific insights to real world issues.

Our in-house engineering facilities permit the rapid design and production of bespoke test equipment allowing for greater operator control and efficiency, thereby improving the quality of the data produced and insights gained.

Dr Neil Chilcott

Read bio

Dr Neil Chilcott joined KAT as its Director of Chemistry in 1999, and became Managing Director five years later. He is the lead for client interaction and project management and has represented the Company on range of expert industry panels and international committees. Neil was an invited speaker for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s South West Region Lecture Series and has presented KAT in-house research at a number of international symposia and conferences.

Ivor Forsdyke

Having spent over forty years in the oil and gas industry, with almost half of that time at BP, Ivor Forsdyke is KAT’s flow assurance and production chemistry specialist with an international reputation for excellence relating to upstream flow assurance. Among many career achievements, Ivor was the Chairperson of the Deepstar Flow Assurance Committee, Project Manager for the Wax Attack industry joint venture, and lead BP’s wax deposition and rheology research for the Forties Pipeline and Beatrice North Sea asset. 

Dr James Cowan

Dr James Cowan has over twenty years of experience in the oil and gas industry with a focus on porous media testing. He was KAT’s technical lead for BP’s Project Pelican, a collaboration between BP Upstream Technology Subsurface Technology Centre, the University of Birmingham's School of Chemistry and KAT which developed a series of new polymers for enhanced oil recovery and was the winner of the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry Industry-Academia Collaboration Award in 2018. 

Francis Morgan

Francis Morgan, KAT’s Senior Engineer, has over twenty-five years’ experience of instrumentation design, fabrication and maintenance. His diverse skill set covers many aspects of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, plus machine coding. More recently, Francis has overseen the integration of in-house 3D design and printing processes to further support KAT’s activities.

QHSE Management

KAT has been a BS EN ISO 9001 registered company since 1998 and has held the BS EN ISO 14001 environmental management standard since 2001.

In 2018 KAT built upon its excellent HSE record and became one of the first Companies in the UK, and one of the first 100 Companies in the world, to migrate to the newly introduced BS EN ISO 45001 Health and Safety Standard.
